Early morning start, up and out for the 0825 ferry to Venice Island. I now have a much better understanding of how the system works. Our ferry takes about 20 minutes past cruise ships that are in port to our convenient parking space just 4 bridges away from San Marco.
Most of our group went on gondolas. We didn’t, preferring to meander round the narrow alleyways and canals. We met back for our short visit to a Murano glass factory. The pieces are so beautiful, colourful and intricate.
San Marco itself is so recognisable, the gateway, Doges Palace and the cathedral. When we arrived it was calm, not too many people. A couple of hours later, thousands upon thousands of tourists.
We went away on our own and looked at Londra Palace. The views are fabulous, right over Grand Canal. The rooms are all individual but quite classic in style.
We left Venice at lunchtime for a very long coach ride to Rome, about 7 hours to arrive at the Holiday Inn at 9pm
