Bharatpur

Another long car journey of around 6 hours from Jaipur by car to Agra. Most will stop at bharatpur for lunch between Jaipur and Agra or vv. bharatpur is worth at least an overnight stop. It is an oasis amongst traffic chaos

The Bagh in bharatpur is a 23 room hotel and also a bird sanctuary. It has a bar, restaurant, coffee shop, paid wi fi, purified water and of course the bird sanctuary which has 33 species of birds and around 250 species of migratory birds coming from as far afield as Siberia

We were served lunch at the Bagh which was an excellent selection of local specialities including cheese paneer and missi roti and this was my best meal so far before seeing a couple of rooms and the beautiful gardens

It is feasible to stay at bharatpur as Agra is only 55kms, about an hours drive. It is also a couple of hours by train from Delhi and even closer to ranthambore which is famous for tigers

The rooms at the Bagh are not luxurious but they are very spacious and the surroundings are the main selling point
