Tenerife

We flew from Luton to Tenerife on Monarch. On arrival we took the speedy shuttle which in theory was OK but we were left waiting until the minibus filled up so it still took almost an hour. We were the first to be dropped off though

Our home for the week is Paradise Park in Los Cristianos where we were invited for one of the agents select weeks that they host 3 or 4 times a year. We were expecting half board but we have been upgraded to all inclusive which was a lovely surprise

Paradise Park is a good 4 star hotel which is 700metres from the sea but as they run a regular shuttle bus that’s not a drawback. Also they have a good animation programme for adults and children so there is plenty to do. They have a new disco and entertainment lounge in the basement and a kids club. There are 3 swimming pools several jacuzzis and a spa. The food is really good with plenty of choice for all diets

Our host Christine Lloyd represents Patadise Park in the UK and as she has done this for some years she knows every inch of it backwards . She also has an absolutely amazing memory. Having just met 18 of us she remembered all our names and where we worked. 3 days later I can still only remember a few

We have two trips included, Loro Parque and Siam Park. Despite most of us having reservations about “theme parks” we all thoroughly enjoyed Loro Parque which proved to be amazing value and of a very high quality. The German owner wanted firstly to have a Thai theme. The Thai village was imported from Thailand with woodcarvings and 24 carat gold plate. From its humble beginnings as a parrot park, it is now 10 times bigger and has killer whales, dolphins, gorillas, meetkats, the largest penguin enclosure in the world. We had a substantial 3 course lunch included in our behind the scenes tour and for £42 bookable in the UK I think this is an amazing day out

Having a free weekend, unfortunately Tenerife was unusually cloudy but still warm, just nice to walk around the local shops but not quite sitting round the pool weather. We took the opportunity to find a couple of bars with free wi fi so here we are in the Devon Arms at Playa Las Vistas an English bar with reasonable prices and a good ambience

I was surprised to see that Kracka the brilliant duo are still at Bar 39. They entertained us when I was last here two years ago. Of course there is plenty of entertainment at the hotel as well including an amazing magician with his brave assistant having knives thrown at her while spinning round fast

On Sunday morning we spent more euros than we had all week in the Sunday market at Los Cristianos which is enormous

On Monday we had our last full day at Siam Park the newest theme park in Tenerife. It is a water park with the same German owner as Loro Parque and also has a Thai village theme which is very tasteful Only a few of our group were brave enough for Tower of Power I settled for a book on the beach before lunch

In the afternoon we went back to the hotel to swim in the natural pool and relax on the sun
