Eastern Cape

I had a really interesting evening at Radisson Edwardian Grafton conveniently right next to Warren Street tube station on Tottenham Court Road

Eastern Cape is the province of South Africa at the Eastern end of the Garden Route. Generally clients pick up a car in Cape Town and stop in a few places before ending with a malaria free game park usually Shamwari, Pumba,  Addo Elephant Park onear Port Elizabeth or Samara near Great Karoo.

Most of us rely on Africa specialists to guide us as it is such a vast area and although I have never been to South Africa I do sell a fair amount

It was interesting to learn so much about the area and what it has to offer. There are many safe areas suitable for families contrary to the general perception of South Africa

South African airways are usually voted Africa’s Best Airline. It is the easiest way to get to Eastern Cape either through Port Elizabeth or East London via Jo’burg and being part of star alliance, they can offer easy connections with other partner airlines

Adventure Province showed us the many different areas of Eastern Cape and the diversity of just one South African province

South Africa national parks were represented. The organisation was set up in 1928 and they look after 21 national parks the most famous being Kruger. Eastern cape parks are malaria free and better for families. Addo is an elephant safari park and although there are no lions you do see bigger herds and more different animals. Shamwari concentrates on conservation and breeding programmes and Pumba is less well known but I have had excellent feedback from clients that have stayed there

Port Elizabeth hotel group includes Pumba Private Game Reserve, Hacklewood Hill covenient for Port Elizabeth airport and two beach properties, The Beach Hotel and The Sands at St Francis Bay

Oyster Bay Lodge is a lovely beach property between Plettenberg and St Francis Bay. It is fairly isolated so Half board is recommended. They also arrange activities and excursions

Elephant house is a boutique property, 8kms from Addo Elephant Park and 45 mibns from  Port Elizabeth. They include. 2 game drives. The recommended stay is about 3 nights

Of course Mantis were represented. I often recommend and sell Mantis and my clients are always very well looked after. Mantis includes Shamwari, the malaria free big five park in Eastern Cape and Sanbona safari park in Western Cape for those with limited time in the Cape Town area and The Last Word properties. They often do off season bundles between properties which are excellent value

Woodall Country House is another lovely boutique property at the edge of Addo National Park and about 45 mins from Port Elizabeth airport

Prana Lodge is a tiny beach property closer to east London

Riverbend Lodge is convenient for Port Elizabeth and Addo. Suitable for honeymooners and families. It is part of the Boutique Travel Marketing group which have 10 properties in South Africa
